Jim Juicy Fruit Hauck is a 40 something club goer that is newer to the circuit scene than many, but has roots deep in many of the other aspects of gay events throughout the San Francisco area. Originally coming out on the East Coast, during a short lived time in the Boston area, Jim returned to California, where he was born and raised and officially come out in Hayward, California, as a regular attendee at the Spoiled Brat in Hayward.
Being a part of the BRAT PACK from the Spoiled Brat Bar, (go back in your history for that one) it took many years for Jim to find his way to the circuit scene, but he still popped into venues along the way, trying to find music that drew him to dance and enjoy the night life. Following his many years in the East San Francisco Bay Area, Jim's extensive exposure focused on the Gay Rodeo Circuit, as a festival and event director for the San Francisco Bay Area Regional Rodeo (Best Buck in the Bay), back when it was still held at the Cow Palace and there was still a gay country and western dance bar in the city (The Rawhide II). Many years of working on the back end of the rodeo, Jim eventually joined the competition side of the rodeo. Many rodeos and a few injuries later, and as he approached his late 30's, Jim decided to retire and move to other, less harmful pastures, and continue his involvement in the community.
Jim found himself checking out the circuit scene and some Burning Man events which eventually lead him to production work on such great things as the Playa Fairies Burning Man theme camp, REAL BAD, and PLAY T-dances. It was in these things that Jim found a place to play, explore, and grow like he never had before. Jim has traveled the world extensively, attending events such as The Black Party, The White Party, Sydney Mardi Gras and Toy Box, La Demence in Brussels, Winter Party, Atlantis Cruises, and a variety of events and clubs in cities like London, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas, Toronto, and many more. Jim was able to get just a few short dance experiences at the famed club Universe and Pleasuredome in San Francisco before the club was closed and torn down, and often wishes he had found that experience to be pleasurable much earlier in life.
Today, Jim can be found on a stage or box flagging, dancing, and hanging out with the countless friends he has made along the way on his circuit journey. He continues producing great events in San Francisco and continues his love and affiliation for production with GRGR/West and REAL BAD. The music, lights, lasers, and friends, are still the big draw, calling him off to dance floors near and far, to work out his problems, share his satisfaction, and boogie all night.
Where are you originally from?
Sacramento, California - Mather AFB to be exact was where I was born. I was raised in the east bay in Fremont.
What made you move to San francisco?
My grandmother instilled a love for this city in me. When I left for Boston for a few years, and then returned I quickly started working on wanting to live in the city. I left again when I purchased a first house, but then sold that a number of years later to return to the Castro.
Tell us more about yourself?
Simple guy who is easy going usually. I like music, dancing, traveling and being around my friends. I like giving to the community and seeing thins develop.
What made you start your Promotions?
I started writing reviews on the Dancing Bears yahoo group, and then decided to do something with a URL and a web page I had. I then consolidated a calendar of events and initially it was to let flaggers know what events were flagger friendly. Reviews increased, calendar grew, and the water bottle system was adopted to give a reviewing process for all events across the board. The rest is as they say history.
How long have you been doing your Promotions?
4 years, but very actively the past 3.
Who are your influences?
Big question - hard answer. My friends Leif and Steve have had the greatest influence on who I am, what I like and where I go. So that is probably the two key people.
What is next for your Promotions?
Continue to try and cover diverse events, grow coverage across the US, and continue to grab international events as well.
How did you come up with your Promotions?
Not really promotions I guess, more of a process of raising the bar and calling out what could be done better by DJs, Promoters, and at the various parties, even the ones I have produced. I think we all deserve something better in the clubs, especially if we are paying for it.

What tips can you give to future Promoters?
Listen to your crowd. Make them feel special and important. Treat them as guests and they will love you. Give them their monies worth and find just one special thing you can do at each event to make it unique.
